The perfect day in Sheffield

Writing this post was particularly hard as there are so many great adventures and experiences to be had in Sheffield. However, after much consideration I have tried my best to narrow it down to one perfect, jam-packed, fun-filled day! So here we have a step-by-step, hour-by-hour itinerary to ensure you have the best day out in the Steel City!

08:45-9:30

To make the most of this glorious city, you really have to be an early bird. As they say, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. So head into the city centre and stop by Tamper Coffee, the perfect place to begin the day. This New-Zealand run trendy eatery really does make for the best place to get some energy for the long day ahead. As some walking will be involved, it is recommended to order eggs Benedict or 'avo on toast'- great sources of slow release energy and not too stodgy! Grab a cup of their delicious coffee and charge your batteries ready for your adventurous day ahead.

9:30-9:40

After finishing your hearty breakfast, head over to the Sheffield Interchange, just an 8 minute walk away. From here you can catch the number 271 bus, at 9.40 to Castleton.

9:40-10:20

Enjoy the views! The bus takes 40 minutes to get to the stop you need. This bus is a double-decker, so take advantage and ride top deck to enjoy the best views in Sheffield; the beautiful Yorkshire countryside. Get off the bus at Fox House to begin your peak district adventure.

10:20-13:30

Once getting off the bus, head onto the 'Longshaw Estate' and take the Padley Gorge Trail. Although the map may say 37 minutes, it can take up to an hour to do this scenic walk through the deep, narrow valley to Grindleford Cafe. The beautiful walk through Padley Gorge hosts scenes of children splashing in the river, dogs running free and families happily picnicking. In the winter months, this walk is still glorious, seeing friendly walkers wrapped up with wellington boots, enjoying the crisp, country air.

Once reaching the famous Grindleford Cafe, you'll be greeted by enthusiastic walkers, all huddled round the wooden tables outside. As you arrive, grab a table (if you can!) and then head inside to order the infamous Grindleford Caf' humongous chip butty, washed down with their delicious hot chocolate! After feeling fully replete, continue on the walk back to the starting point.

13:33- 14:08

Get the 271 bus to the Sheffield Interchange.

14:10-15:00

Once arriving back into the fabulous Steel City centre, take a stroll past the crucible theatre, where the famous snooker world championships are held every year. Walk from here up into the winter gardens, the largest urban glasshouse in Europe! Here you can enjoy a wander through the tropical climate, whilst exploring all the magical plants that grow here. The winter gardens are also connected to the millennium galleries. The millennium galleries is a free art gallery, that boast a variety of exhibitions throughout the year.

15:00-17:00

Make your way through the back entrance of the Winter Gardens and experience the bustling peace gardens, right in the centre of town. The peace gardens, created as part of the 'Heart of the City' project, is directly facing the Town Hall. Thus, you will often see many a happy wedding party posing for scenic photos in front of the glorious fountains.

From here, walk up to explore the University Campus, to see the buzzing hive of students. Here, on the right, you will see Firth Court, opened in 1905, this glorious red-brick building boats classic 1900's Gothic architecture. Once passing this building, carry on walking up to Weston Park. Weston park is a beautiful public garden, often flooded with students, tourists and happy families strolling around the grounds. In addition to the park, it holds a large, award-winning museum, with fun-filled interactive exhibitions for all the family.

17:00-17:20

I figured by now that your legs will be pretty tired from all the walking! So catch the 52/52A bus that comes every 5 minutes or so to head back to the city centre, getting off at the "Sheffield Church Street/High Street" stop.

17:30-18:30

After a long day of walking, eating, exploring and possibly learning a few new facts - it's time for some down time! Go back to the cosy, warm apartment in the centre that you are staying at and take an hour to relax, nap, watch Netflix or simply just to grab a coffee and recharge.

18:30-19:30

Once fully rested, head back into the centre to continue your day of adventure with an even more exciting evening. Head over to Oisoi, to get a taste of Asia! Centred at the heart of the city, this oriental restaurant has everything to offer to prepare you for a fun filled night of drinks and dancing. To be sure to secure a great spot at this newly-opened restaurant, ring up and book a table on; 0114 275 6566. Although the menu offers a great variety of choices, the most delicious dishes to recommend are; Cod in Black Bean sauce, Sweet and Sour Prawns, Kung Pao Chicken accompanied by your favourite choice of rice.

19:30-21:00

The best way to round off this jam-packed adventure, is to head over to Cubanas, Leopold square. Leopold square is where the central hub of activity in the city centre lives, with a buzzing vibe attracting crowds from all ages. Cubanas is a Latin-american inspired bar that often hosts live music and salsa lessons. As the evening draws later, the dance floor becomes filled with enthusiastic salsa lovers. All you need is a margarita and a dance partner to complete the perfect day with a perfecto evening.

21:00- you decide!

The night is yours! Whether you dance the night away in Cubanas or hit-the-hay, you can rest assured that you will have seen the best sights in Sheffield during your perfect day out!
