Top 5 Events Happening in Sheffield this September

As summer draws to an end and the nights get shorter, Sheffield is definitely still in full swing! The autumnal months in Sheffield still offer some of the greatest events all year round.

1. Sheffield Walking Festival: 8th-17th September 2017

One of the most infamous attractions enticing crowds to Sheffield, is the beautiful Peak District just on the outskirts. Sheffield Walking Festival celebrates these postcard ready walks by holding a 9 day festival in its honour. Celebrating the gorgeous peaks and the inner city parks, this festival is every walkers dream! There are 34 routes in varying length, difficulty and theme. From the Sheffield Heritage Pub Walk (Friday the 8th of September) to the Padley Gorge Picnic and Paddle (Sunday the 17th of September) - there's something for all the family to enjoy. So grab your boots, wellies and trainers, after all - these boots where made for walking!

2. The Lyceum Theatre Performances: 12th-30th September 2017

As the winter months grow closer, it can only mean one thing - theatre time! As the evenings get colder there is nothing better than getting wrapped up with your loved ones and braving the cooler evenings for a night at the theatre. Sheffield frequently boasts a fantastic array of shows and this month is no exception:


12th-16th - The Addams family



They're creepy and they're kooky, mysterious and spooky,they're all together ooky....The Addams Family! Adapted from the 1991 classic, the Addams family is now on a stage near you - as a musical! This musical transformation of Britain's favourite weirdos promises to entertain all the family this September.


18th - 23rd - Grease is the word - Taken from the West End, the unbeatable Grease is back and better than ever! With all your favourite songs from the original movie, Grease is at the Lyceum Sheffield, featuring famous British pop star Tom Parker from The Wanted. For a night of sing-a-longs, Grease is the word!


26th - 30th - Around the world in 80 days - As the traditional story goes, Phileas Fogg takes off with his fortune to see the world in 80 days! With a fantastic set and an even better cast, come and join this fantastic, magical adventure in the Sheffield City Centre this month!


3. IKEA opening: 28th September 2017


Välkommen - as our Swedish friends would say! Its what South Yorkshire have been waiting for - the opening of the new IKEA store. Supplying all your homely necessities, the famous Swedish retailer throws open its doors to all the savvy-shoppers at 10 am on September the 28th! Located a few tram stops away from the centre, this ribbon cutting event seems to be one not to miss for all those shopaholics out there!


4. Heritage open days: Sep 07 - Sep 10, 2017


For 4 days only, local heritage sites welcome visitors for free tours and explorations led by experts and volunteers. These great educational opportunities are scattered across Sheffield from the Botanical Gardens to the Madina Mosque. There are 14 sites planned throughout the four days, meaning you have the chance to explore history first hand and experience a taste of what the heritage sites have to offer. 5. Wednesday vs United: 24th September 207



The one we've all been waiting for - the first Sheffield derby in 5 and a half years! It's going to be a tense day as the almighty Blades and the prestigious Owls battle it out for the pride of winning the Sheffield Derby match. Dating all the way back to 1891, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday have been playing against each other in competitive Derbys for centuries! It is sure to be a nail-biting must-see for anyone in the city that weekend.
